Corinna Mendis, is a Massage Therapist, Mental Health Counselor as well as Physician Assistant. She currently works at St. Charles Hospital and Rehabilitation Center’s Medical Withdrawal Unit. Corinna has been a PA for eleven years and has worked in the Emergency Department, Surgery, and now Detox.
Prior to PA school Corinna worked as a Massage Therapist as well as a Mental Health Counselor at Hope House Ministries. She has also worked at Pax Christi Hospitality Center, a men’s homeless shelter as an advocate and counselor. At that time she helped create Project Hope, a drop-in center for the homeless, which is also under the umbrella organization of Hope House Ministries.
In addition, Corinna is an Independent filmmaker and writer, and wrote and produced her own TV Pilot in 2011 based on her experiences working at Pax Christi. She has worked on various independent films and has written several award winning screenplays.
Currently she is writing a screenplay on addiction, as well as filming a documentary on addiction.
Corinna has also traveled to Ecuador in which she filmed a documentary short based on BLANCA’S HOUSE; a medical mission that brings medical volunteers to help serve the citizens who otherwise do not have adequate healthcare. Corinna states, “I had always wanted to go on a “Doctor’s without Border’s” mission to a country where I could help provide medical services to those who need it most, and who would never have the opportunity to speak, or walk again without missions like BLANCA’S HOUSE. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to film the experience and watch my two worlds collide as one in a magnificent way. The trip was life changing, for myself as well as the medical workers, and even more so, the patients.”
Corinna Mendis was born in Smithtown, New York and currently lives in Port Jefferson, New York. Her Father, Peter Mendis, is a Greek immigrant and her mother, Marianne Mendis, is a German immigrant. She attended Port Jefferson schools before attending and graduating from The Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, CT (Class of 1992). She attended the Swedish Institute for Massage Therapy and is a Licensed Massage Therapist (class of 1998). She also earned an M.S. in Mental Health Counseling (class of 2001) from Long Island University, C.W. Post Campus and a B.S. in Psychology (Class of 1998) from NYU. She then went on to Touro College of Health Sciences in Bay Shore, NY, where she earned her Bachelor’s in Physician Assistant Studies (class of 2007).
Corinna currently works at St. Charles Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Port Jefferson, New York.
