Course Description Technology has revolutionized access to mental health services for people around the world. However, the ethical challenges presented by the rapid expansion of the use of technology in our field cannot be overstated. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in mental health practice presents both benefits and significant risks. This session will provide an introductory level of understanding of AI and how it is currently being used in mental health practice, with a significant conversation around the possibilities for the future. Course Objectives Define “Artificial Intelligence” (AI) Explain how AI is currently being used in mental health practice Identify the ethical and legal concerns for using AI in mental health practice Apply a framework to evaluate ethical and legal concerns for the use of AI in mental health practice at a practical and policy level About the Instructor Kathryn Krase, Ph.D., J.D., M.S.W., Principal Consultant with Krase Consultant and founder of Making the Tough Call is an expert on the professional reporting of suspected child maltreatment. She has authored multiple books and articles on the subject. She has years of experience consulting with government and community-based organizations to develop policy & practice standards.
