Intro to Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Sat | April 2nd | 10am-1:00pm | EST | 3 CE's | Joel Simon, LCSW

Class Description

INTRODUCTION TO SOLUTION-FOCUSED BRIEF THERAPY In 1982, the collaboration between Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg, and their colleagues at the Brief Family Therapy Center (BFTC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin became known as solution-focused brief therapy. Since then, the model has been included in graduate survey courses, dedicated master’s programs, and taught to professionals in the community. This is your chance to find out more about a model that has been listed as evidence based from a long-time practitioner, supervisor, and trainer. Joel Simon attended advanced training with the co-developers at BFTC. He has been teaching and practicing solution focus exclusively for the past 30 years. Joel has authored and co-authored 3 books and numerous articles on the subject. This workshop is a chance for those new to solution focus to learn about the model without initially committing to a more extensive training. There will be opportunities for those who want to go further to attend a level 1 training. What will be covered: - Foundations of the model - The differences between problem-solving and solution-building - The 7 solution-focused interventions - The solution-focused assumptions Course Objectives: 1. Attendees will be able to name the principal developers of solution focus. 2. Attendees will be able to articulate the difference between solution-building and problem-solving. 3. Attendees will name the 12 solution-focused assumptions. 4. Attendees will be able to name the 7 solution-focused interventions.
