Class Description

Special Guest Speaker: Dr. Rebecca S. Natow WTF: (Work to Fix) Policies That Threaten Social Justice The “Work to Fix” class is a series where each session is independent. Participants can take any or all of the classes and earn credit for each one they attend. This course explores current policies and executive orders that harm marginalized communities and create ethical challenges for providers. Each session, we will focus on one specific policy or executive order, analyzing its impact on housing, healthcare, immigration, criminal justice, and civil rights. Participants will learn practical ways to advocate for change while staying within their professional role. Course Objectives By the end of this course, participants will: Recognize key policies that threaten social justice today Understand how these policies affect vulnerable populations Identify ethical dilemmas and opportunities for advocacy Learn strategies for resistance, including legal action, community organizing, and policy advocacy Empower themselves and their clients to challenge systemic injustice This course provides actionable tools to help providers fight back against harmful policies and create meaningful change About the Instructor Michael Chiappone, LCSW, has been a Social Worker for 17 years. His work has primarily focused on assisting people who are homeless, mentally ill, or living with Substance Use Disorder. He also sees clients who seek help for a variety of reasons. For most of his career, he worked at Hope House Ministries, a highly respected not-for-profit agency. He held two positions at Hope House, Director of Project Hope II, a program that worked specifically with the chronic homeless population. He also assisted in developing and implementing Hope Academy, a non-traditional, long-term treatment facility for substance abuse. Currently, he works full-time as a Coordinator of a SUD treatment facility. Kathryn Krase, Ph.D., J.D., M.S.W., Principal Consultant with Krase Consultant and founder of Making the Tough Call is an expert on the professional reporting of suspected child maltreatment. She has authored multiple books and articles on the subject. She has years of experience consulting with government and community-based organizations to develop policy & practice standards.

  • What platform will the class be held on?
    The class will take place on Zoom.
  • What will be my method of communication with the lecturer?
    You are able to interact with the lecturer by using the chat function or verbally (if you have a working microphone).
  • How do I get my CE certificate?
    In order to get your CE certificate, you must complete the course survey. You will have access to the course survey five minutes before the Zoom session ends. Once you complete the course survey, your course completion code will be emailed to you.
